We’ve all spent time goofing off on the Web… Googling our own names, clicking on weird links, thwacking penguins. Web marketers know this, so companies often grab “major league” one-word URLs (like, say, www.love.com, which goes to AOL’s personals site). But sometimes, sites don’t take you where you think they might. It used to drive me crazy that, until the last few years, keying in MLB.com didn’t take you to the official pro baseball site, but to a law firm known as Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. (That situation has since been rectified.)

This quiz names 15 big URLs, and you’ll try to determine where those addresses go. Sure, it’s easy to cheat… but it’s more fun to learn. Don’t expect to score well on this quiz (kudos if you do!) but enjoy it as a brief look at the Web world in which we live. Click here to take the quiz!

  1. Good quiz!

    RAWR!!! 10/15 :)

  2. Thanks, Art - good score!

  3. 60%- woohoo! It would have been harder with the HEAT one if it didn’t say a canadian porn site- because I think Canadian is .ca not .com.

This is coming from the person who did dicks-dot-come to get to Dick’s Sporting Goods… sick. That was a mistake.

  4. 73%.
    That was fun.

  5. 7/15
I just lowered my geek quotient

  6. 7/15 for me too…and I guessed on them all…I was just glad to know that TOOTHPASTE went where I was hoping it would go…

We have a theatre chain here in Austin called “Alamo Drafthouse”..but most of us refer to it as just Drafthouse…once, i was trying to check the movie listings, so I typed www.drafthouse.com, not knowing a porn site had already grabbed it (its since given it up, thank god)…WOW…the images are STILL burned in my brain, and that was over 5 years ago, and I was only on it about 3 seconds before I realized what had happened…sheesh…
